lovers, listen up. experts are warning that the most common beans used for their morning cup joe could dry up and become extinct. we'll tell you why and if anything can be done from happening. also, at the top of the show this morning, we want to give a big shoutout to everyone on this veterans day. you're looking at live soldier of the tomb of the unknown soldier. once again, a big salute to all of our fighting men and women. but we're going start here this half-hour w that mystery and fatal explosion in indianapolis. abc's john schriffen is on the story. >> reporter: our affiliate is now reporting at least two people are dead. eight others injured. the blast rocked the neighborhood when many were

asleep. authorities have been using search lights going door to door to see if the number of victims will grow. those at the scene said it looked like a war zone. late saturday night, left this quiet suburban neighborhood up in flames. two houses leveled. two set ablaze and more than 200 people forced from their homes. the scene, collapsed homes and metal from cars melted. the blast could be heard from miles around. >> it was so big and overwhelming. you can't even complain. >> reporter: the shock waves blew out windows and garage doors of nearby houses. many damaged by flying debris. >> as soon as you go outside it was like it was snowing. the house, that i just saw, was just gone. >> reporter: many neighbors are

staying with relatives and friends. others are sleeping on colts at local elementary schools. they're waiting until daylight to search through the rubble. the authorities did not definitivety how many people were in the neighborhood when the blast occurred. investigators still have no idea what caused this. should have a better understanding as the sun comes up this morning. bianna. >> it looks like a war zone. all right, john, thank you. the latest on bombshell that's still reverberating through washington. more details about the shocking scandal that cost the head of the can cia his job. david kerley has new information about david petraeus' extramarital affair came to light. >> reporter: we're learning stung details about this scandal. it was an affair between petraeus and his biographer

paula broadwell. broad we'll had access to petraeus. >> i they trusted me. i got to know his family and e his mentors. >> reporter: confirmed as cia director more than a year ago. several sources tell abc news that it was an e-mail that unravelled the affair. couple of months ago, a woman in the tampa area, with a association with david petraeus, received a strange and harassing e-mail which launched the investigation. the e-mail was traced back to the computer of paula broadwell. but what agents found instead of a account were salacious e-mails between petraeus and broadwell. >> there had been rumors between him and broadwell for some time.

but, frankly, i didn't believe them and neither did just about anybody else i knew. he just didn't seem the type. >> reporter: martha raddatz reports that some of his afghanistan staff worried about how it looked with broadwell spending so much time with him. an official tells abc news that it was just tuesday evening that the head of national intelligence was told. thursday at the white house, petraeus offered his resignation to the president, who waited 24 hours to accept. so shocking because petraeus himself had been critical of officers guilty of infidelity. >> he spoke of them in this tone of contempt that they had

exchangesed in this type of behavior. >> this morning, he has no plans to start the investigation. >> david, so many people are questioning the timing of this, coming just days after the election, if the fbi had been investigating the situation for months, how is it the white house and congress were both left in the dark. >> reporter: peter king one raising questions. no response directly from the white house yet. investigators for the intelligence community will say, listen, this wasn't a matter of national security. what they found was a personnel issue. >> all right, i have a feeling that this story is far from over. david, thank you so much dan? this scandal has derailed two promising careers. paula broadwell is a life long overachiever, she graduated from

harvard, a triathlete and mother of two. >> reporter: i spoke to friends and colleagues who knew paula broadwell. they called her the star of her generation at west point. technology can't solve all of the problems. featured in a documentary about weapons system. military smarts and enviable physique, friends said that she was devoted to the cause of wounded warriors. making this ironic that this scandal comes on veterans day weekend. >> takes the time to help somebody like me. there's not much time for indiscretions. >> reporter: david bixler, a wounded warrior knows paula through a charity foundation.

last week, broadwell was to skydive but donated it to bixler. he questions these latest allegation and i have some serious questions about who's connecting these dots. >> reporter: some of her colleagues say that she's someone to be admired. she's reversed the cause of young women in the military. those who know her said that she was facebook all the time. on friday morning, her 40th birthday, she posted an apost about mortality and exercise. a likely clue that she had no ideas that hours later her entire profile would be wiped. not sure when her husband learned about this affair. broadwell was celebrate to her

whoth birthday at a dinner at washington. her husband called and canceled the event late friday. >> thank you. so, how does this scandal likely to play for a newly-elected president. abc's george stephanopoulos is here. lot of people, especially on the republican side, raising questions about the timing. some people say that this is a little fishy. is this scandal, does it have the potential to derail the president's agenda? >> i don't think so. i was a little surprised that this had gone on for several months. the white house was reportedly not told until wednesday. as long as they hold, you won't see any national security implications. the president was already planning to replace secretary of state hillary clinton and secretary of defense leon pan net that was also planning on

leaving. and there's that investigation of what happened in benghazi going on. >> david petraeus was set to testify in benghazi this week. the republicans aren't happy about that. >> unlikely to be good enough for a lot of members of congress. peter king wants to speak petraeus directly. this week, i'll be talking to saxby chambliss. do they still want to hear from david petraeus himself. >> on the fiscal cliff, the tax like that will go into effect on january 1st, the president is saying i want to raise taxes on rich people. the republicans said, no go. do you see any pathway to a deal here? >> there's going have to be a pathway to a deal here. you'll have a big hit on january 1st, spending cuts and tax
